 STATEMENT Behind the Thai demand for bilateral negotiations

Before
and during Thailand’s latest attacks into Preah Vihear and Oddar
Meanchey provinces, the Thai government has been calling for “bilateral
negotiations” with Cambodia. Most recently, Thai diplomats have asked
other countries to urge Cambodia to enter bilateral talks with Thailand.

On 26 April 2011, Mr Suwit Khunkitti, Natural Resources
and Environment Minister of Thailand said that UNESCO should show
responsibility because the listing of Preah Vihear Temple as a World
eritage site has resulted in border clashes between Thailand and
Cambodia

the International Court's of Justice (ICJ) for the interpretation of the
